Excerpt:
I’ve been relatively politics-free at home for the holidays, partially because I’ve had the flu and partially because half my family is Republican. People aren’t as hot for Obama here as people seem to be in Iowa - reactions range from “Who? Is he Muslim?” (haircut lady) to “He’s too young and black” (my uncle). Hillary also apparently loses points for being a woman and being polarizing, No one has heard of Vilsack, and everyone likes Edwards (even haircut lady, who was upset that her U.S. House district elected Muslim Keith Ellison because “those people flew planes into our buildings”).
I get the feeling that the experience critique of Obama will fade as people hear him - no one since at least Kennedy has sounded more like a President than him. While that doesn’t actually address the concern, I don’t know that it is a valid concern to begin with. As far as I know there isn’t anyone at all running with personal experience in ending wars.
